REACH OUT TO US
Point-of-care (POC) testing is shifting diagnostics from the central lab to the patient's bedside, the clinic, and even the home. These compact, often handheld devices must perform complex analytical functions, which frequently depend on integrated microfluidic systems driven by miniature pumps for sample intake, reagent metering, and mixing.
The Engineering Challenge
The design constraints for POC device pumps are extreme. They must be incredibly small, lightweight, and consume very little power to be suitable for portable, battery-operated instruments. Despite their size, they must deliver precise and repeatable fluidic or pneumatic performance to ensure the analytical accuracy of the test. Reliability is paramount, as the device must work flawlessly every time in a non-laboratory environment. Cost-effectiveness is also a major driver in this high-volume market.
The Thomas Solution
Thomas specializes in miniaturization of pump technology to meet the demands of the POC market. Our Miniature Gas and Liquid Diaphragm Pumps, are designed to provide reliable pneumatic or fluidic control in the smallest possible footprint. We offer highly efficient DC and BLDC motors to maximize battery life. Our deep expertise in OEM collaboration allows us to work with POC device designers to create highly customized, cost-effective pump solutions that are optimized for a specific microfluidic cartridge or system architecture, helping to bring innovative diagnostic technologies to market faster.
